E-catalogsProcurement Data of 1.2 Million Medical Products Available for the First Time from Medical Data Institute

E-marketplaces now have access to high-quality, standardized product content

Langhorne, PA—(February 2, 2001)—For the first time, Medical Data Institute™ (MDI™) is making their master library of nearly 1,200,000 medical products from more than 2,500 vendors available to other organizations. Formerly, this well-attributed, proprietary content was used only for MDI’s software and research tools to the medical supply and equipment industry.

Now, b2b e-commerce marketplaces, manufacturers and national distributors focused on the medical supply and equipment industry (as well as government agencies and insurance companies) are able to license MDI’s dynamically-updated, cleansed, content-rich e-catalogs for their procurement sites.

Why Companies Are Approaching MDI to Partner

Karen DiTomasso, MDI Vice President says, "Because MDI already has standardized, Internet-ready medical product content, other companies don’t need to ‘recreate the wheel.’ They are able to quickly make the e-catalogs available to their buyers to help them locate products and make more effective buying decisions."

MDI delivers and continually keeps track of medical product descriptions, price changes, discontinued items and offers cross-referencing capabilities, among other functions important to maintaining dynamic, transitive e-catalog content for companies interested in rapid on-boarding of medical product supplier content. Companies are able to choose from a master list of e-catalog content and choose various combinations of catalogs or product information to suit their needs.

DiTomasso said, "The product content can be ‘sliced and diced’ however the client needs it. Any company that is serious about providing medical product content for e-commerce understands the importance of having content that is reliable and accurate. Especially in light of the ‘dot-com’ downturn of the past year, e-marketplaces are seeking partners with proven, reliable histories in their industries. MDI has been providing offline services (CD-ROM and print-based) since 1987 that originate with this electronic content, which is readily adaptable to online marketplaces."

Matthew Cohn, MDI President, added, "Not to mention, to start from scratch and create an industry master e-catalog like MDI’s would require an investment of close to $1,000,000. Companies interested in content like ours can just license the e-catalogs from us for considerably less. They have the added benefit that MDI has established relationships with the vendors. We’ve been providing reliable information services to the medical product industry since 1987 so the vendors know and trust us."

Cohn continued, "MDI is a highly-reliable partner to enable companies that are either new to the industry or new to e-marketplaces who need vast medical product content. They are able to not only save money, but importantly have a high-quality, proven end result."
